Chip McSweeney has a diverse work experience in various roles. Chip started their career at Southern Maine Community College as a Support Specialist II from 2006 to 2008. Chip then joined Comcast as a Communications Technician II from 2008 to 2010. In 2010, they became a Graduate Malware Research Assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where they worked until 2015. From 2015 to 2017, they were a Security Researcher at OpenDNS (now a part of Cisco). Chip then joined COFENSE in 2017 and held several positions, including Researcher from 2017 to 2020, Senior Research Engineer from 2020 to 2022, Principal Researcher from 2022 to 2023, and currently serves as the Manager - Global Threat Services.

Chip McSweeney has a diverse education history. Chip first attended Essex Junction High School from 1999 to 2003, where they received their High School Diploma with a focus on General Studies. Following this, Chip pursued an education in the field of computer systems technology. From 2001 to 2003, they attended the Center For Technology, Essex, where they earned a Certificate in Computer Systems Technology. Chip then continued their studies at Southern Maine Community College from 2003 to 2007, completing an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Computer Systems Technology.

Afterward, Chip decided to explore their interest in criminal justice. Chip attended Southern Maine Community College from 2007 to 2008, obtaining another AAS degree, this time in Criminal Justice. However, it seems that they returned to their passion for computer sciences as they enrolled in the University of Alabama at Birmingham. From 2010 to 2013, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer and Information Sciences with a specialization in Networking. Subsequently, they furthered their education at the same university and obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Computer and Information Sciences from 2013 to 2015.
