Joar Sæther

Director - Site Reliability Engineering at Cognite

Joar Sæther has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Joar began their career in 1997 as a Chief Engineer at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where they managed a team and was responsible for various technical aspects. In 2001, Joar worked as a Test Manager at Photonics Technologies A/S.

In 2005, Joar joined FAST, a subsidiary of Microsoft, and held multiple roles such as Senior Technical Support Engineer, Technical Support Manager, Director Technical Support, and Director Support Services. Joar managed teams, developed processes and tools, and ensured customer satisfaction by resolving technical issues.

In 2009, Joar joined Microsoft Development Center Norway, where they served as an Escalation Manager and later as a Support Engineering Manager. Joar'sresponsibilities included managing support teams, outsourcing front-line support to India, and training and process design to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Joar worked at Cxense from 2015 to 2018 as the VP of Global Support. Joar built an outsourced support team in Sri Lanka and replaced existing support staff in Boston, Oslo, and Copenhagen. Joar'srole involved improving support offerings and delivery to a global customer base for a range of products.

Since 2018, Joar has been employed at Cognite AS as the Director - Site Reliability Engineering, where they are responsible for managing site reliability engineering operations.

Overall, Joar Sæther has extensive experience in technical support, team management, process improvement, and customer satisfaction in various industries and organizations.

Joar Sæther obtained a Master's degree in Physics from The Norwegian Institute of Technology, where they studied from 1987 to 1992. Joar then pursued a PhD in Physics with a specialization in Photonics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) from 1996 to 2005. In addition to their academic endeavors, they have obtained certifications in "Working with CDF Basics" and "Cognite Lab" from Cognite in February 2023 and June 2022, respectively.
