Mekdim Dereje is a computing science student at Simon Fraser University, pursuing a BSc in Software Systems. Previously, Mekdim served as a Software Developer at Vancouver Coastal Health in 2025, and as a Junior Software Tester at Gatekeeper Systems Inc. in 2023. They held various leadership roles at the SFU Software Systems Student Society, including President, where they increased community participation by 40%. In 2022, Mekdim worked as a Camp Instructor at Byte Camp, teaching programming skills to over 200 children. Currently, Mekdim is a fellow at ColorStack, a nonprofit supporting Black and Latinx computer science students.
