Joseph Clancy is the Vice President and Chief Security Officer of Comcast Corporate Security. In this role, he provides oversight of the security mechanisms which safeguard and protect Comcast personnel, assets, proprietary information, and physical infrastructures.
Before rejoining the Comcast Corporation in March 2017, President Barack Obama appointed Joe as the 24th Director of the United States Secret Service on February 18, 2015, after serving as the Acting Director since October 6, 2014.
A 27-year veteran of the Secret Service, Joe was appointed Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division on February 1, 2009. He held this distinguished position until his retirement from the Secret Service on June 30, 2011. Following his retirement, Joe served as a Senior Director for Comcast Corporate Security, and was subsequently selected as the Executive Director of Cable Security for the Comcast Corporation.
Joe’s career with the Secret Service began in May 1984 in the Philadelphia Field Office. Throughout his career, he later held several positions on the Presidential Protective Division under Presidents George H. W. Bush, William Jefferson Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. In between his assignments to the Presidential Protective Division, Joe was selected as a Staff Assistant in the Office of Homeland Security. During this two-year assignment, he served as the Director for National Special Security Events. He was also assigned to the Secret Service’s Office of Congressional Affairs, and was consequently detailed to the Commerce, Justice, and State Senate Appropriations Subcommittee.
He retired as the Director of the United States Secret Service on March 4, 2017.
Joe attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and is a graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Criminal Justice. Prior to joining the Secret Service, he worked as a high school teacher and football and baseball coach for the Philadelphia Archdiocese.
A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joe and his wife, Andrea, have been married for 35 years. They have four children.
