Tom Kleinpeter is a software engineer and entrepreneur who is currently Co-Founder & Chief Architect at Common Room. Prior to Common Room, Tom was Principal SDE at Microsoft and Cofounder/CTO at Audiogalaxy (acquired by Dropbox). At Audiogalaxy, Tom designed and implemented a personal music streaming service. Tom also built a service that automatically generates radio stations for users based on collaborative filtering. In addition, Tom built a music fingerprinting service including both the client and a fingerprint database. The database stored over 100 million items and supported fast fingerprint searches. Tom also built a service to automatically construct music playlists based on user taste and feedback. Furthermore, they built a cross-platform C++ client to scan and stream music. Finally, Tom developed the Android version of our mobile app using Java. Before Audiogalaxy, Tom worked at Dropbox as Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, Engineering Manager, and Software Engineer. At Dropbox, Tom worked on Dropbox's sync engine and a few other things. Tom also worked on the performance team to reduce the cost and latency of Dropbox's primary services. In addition, Tom was tech lead for an 18mo project to safely add new types of ACLs to Dropbox and improve the filesystem model for teams. Furthermore, they managed the Photo Infrastructure team, which was responsible for the APIs and infrastructure that powered Dropbox's photo experiences. Finally, Tom developed infrastructure to help Dropbox process incoming photos. Prior to Dropbox, Tom worked at Microsoft as Principal SDE for 2 years 4 months.
Tom Kleinpeter attended The University of Texas at Austin from 1996 to 2000, where they studied computer engineering.
