The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is divided into 100 communes. Under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior, the citizens of a commune have the power to manage their own heritage, territory and interests. Every commune is led by a communal council. All council members are elected directly by the inhabitants of the commune, serve six-year terms and are eligible for reelection. The membership of a council is a part-time job.

The communal council of Kopstal counts 11 members: 
- 1 mayor (bourgmestre)
- 2 aldermen (échevins) 
- 8 communal councillors (conseillers communaux)

Our public administration is employing nearly 60 instructors, civil servants and communal workers in total to fulfill its responsibilities:
