Stefan Codrescu is a software engineer with experience in data assimilation, Python algorithms, and web-based data visualizations. Since 2021, they have been working as a Software Engineer for Compa. From 2018 to 2021, they were the Founder of Vector Space LLC, where they architected and developed a large C++11 application implementing an Ensemble Kalman Filter to combine the results of a numerical model results with satellite data. Stefan also published a peer reviewed scientific study as first author with over 19 citations. From 2012 to 2018, they worked at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences as a Scientific Software Engineer and Student Assistant. As a Scientific Software Engineer, they designed, built, tested, and deployed data-intensive Python algorithms into a distributed real-time processing system to automate operational space weather forecasting in collaboration with scientists, system engineers, and Agile software developers. Stefan also led an effort to implement a standard code framework across 30+ individual data processing algorithms spanning 4 instrument teams and leveraged CI via Jenkins in a DevOps pipeline to automate unit testing and integration testing of processing algorithms. As a Student Assistant, they developed automated data visualizations to help scientists understand performance of satellite instruments and designed and developed web-based data portals to distribute data to the general scientific community. Stefan also created an interactive web-based Javascript visualization using d3 to depict Earth's magnetopause standoff distance over time.
Stefan Codrescu completed a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2020, and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2019.
