Wiri Gumbie

Wiri Gumbie is a seasoned competition law expert currently serving as Principal Analyst at The Competition Commission South Africa since April 2017, where responsibilities include managing a team that investigates mergers and proposes policy changes related to the Competition Act No. 89 of 1998. Previously, Wiri held various roles at The Competition Commission, including Acting Manager of the Mergers and Acquisitions Division and Head of International Relations. Additionally, Wiri served as a Panel Member for the Takeover Regulations Panel in mid-2023. A background in competition law was established through positions at Barclays Africa Group Limited and Absa Group, focusing on anti-trust and merger control issues. Wiri's academic qualifications include an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand and an LLM in Corporate Law specializing in Competition Law from the University of South Africa.
