Byron Smith

Byron Smith possesses over 30 years of experience in the chemical and natural gas utility industries, with a strong background in operations management, safety, and environmental health and safety (EHS). Serving as the Manager of Operations, EHS at KerrMcGee Pigments, LLC from August 2000 to February 2007, Byron led the EHS Department for multiple plants. As the Director of Safety, Environmental, and Training at CenterPoint Energy from February 2007 to July 2013, Byron directed comprehensive safety and training programs for a significant gas distribution company. Byron continued to provide expertise as a Principal Consultant at DEKRA Insight from August 2013 to September 2018, focusing on organizational culture and leadership assessments. Currently, as a self-employed Principal Consultant since September 2018, Byron emphasizes the development of sustainable organizational safety strategies. Educational qualifications include a BS/MA in Microbiology and English from Louisiana Tech University, earned from 1971 to 1978.
