Hugh Speechly

Hugh Speechly is a forest sector professional with expertise in forest governance, compliance, sustainability, and forest products trade. They served as a Senior Advisor for the Department for International Development from 2012 to 2014, managing the Forest Governance, Markets, and Climate Programme. Hugh has been an independent consultant since 2014, providing services in public policy and forest governance, with recent projects focused on the Mekong region and Myanmar. They also held various roles in forestry consulting throughout their career, including positions at SGS and Silviconsult Limited. Hugh holds multiple degrees in Botany and Forestry from the University of Canterbury and the University of California, Berkeley.
