John Brown

John Brown is a seasoned professional in maritime law and hydrography, currently serving as a Law of the Sea Consultant at Cooley LLP since September 2016. Brown also holds the position of Visiting Research Fellow at King's College London and has been a member of the faculty at IFLOS since 2008. Prior experience includes serving as Head of the Law of the Sea Group at the UK Hydrographic Office, where advisory roles encompassed UK government legislation and assistance in illegal fishery prosecutions. Brown has a background in military service, having held the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy and serving as a liaison officer with the US Navy during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Additional roles in the maritime sector include hydrographic surveying and port management, backed by an MA in International Boundary Studies from King's College London.
