Rick Smith is the current Vice President of Finance at Copper. Prior to joining Copper, Rick was a financial consultant at Aerospike, Inc., where they were responsible for improving the annual planning and forecasting process through Adaptive Insights integration. Rick also developed drill-down reporting with variance analysis and visual dashboards for SaaS and operational analytics.

Before their work at Aerospike, Rick was the Director of FP&A at Engine Yard, a leading cloud application solution provider. During their time at Engine Yard, they directed FP&A, finance, and accounting operations in a rapid growth, fast-paced start-up environment. Rick transformed financial planning and business reporting processes, leading to the identification of market insights, performance trends, opportunities, and risks. Rick also launched and maintained BI tools to accelerate business performance management and delivered automation of budget workflows and reporting that saved 3,000+ hours of management time per year.

Rick has a proven track record of success in developing detailed strategies for complex purchases, reducing costs by more than 60%, and increasing gross profit margins from breakeven to 50%+. Rick has also prepared long-term revenue, operating plans, and analytical support resulting in strategic fundraising by Oracle, multiple acquisitions, and later divestiture to Microsoft and Versata (private equity).

Rick Smith has a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from the University of New Hampshire, and a Master's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from the same school. Rick is also a Copper Certified Administrator.
