Brian Stoner has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Brian began their career as a Research and Development Scientist at KOBE STEEL LTD, where they focused on developing plasma-based processes for carbon-based materials. Brian later joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Research Associate Professor.

After that, Brian Stoner moved to RTI International, where they held multiple positions including Senior Scientist, Associate Director, and Senior Fellow. In these roles, they led various programs and projects related to biomedical materials and devices. Brian also launched the Reinvent the Toilet program, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and was involved in leading international programs in Global Health Technologies.

Brian Stoner then joined Duke University as the Director of the Center for WaSH-AID and a Visiting Distinguished Fellow in Global Health Technologies at RTI International. Brian also served as an Adjunct Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University.

Currently, Brian Stoner is a Co-Founder of Coprata, a company that develops non-invasive physiological sampling technologies for monitoring health. The technology, developed by researchers at Duke University, aims to detect or manage gastrointestinal diseases, provide early warning of infectious diseases, and monitor personalized wellness.

Brian Stoner is an individual with a strong education background in the field of engineering and materials science. Brian first attended Charlottesville High School from 1979 to 1983. After completing their high school education, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Virginia, studying there from 1983 to 1987. Following their undergraduate studies, Brian went on to obtain a Master's degree in Materials Science at the same university, from 1987 to 1989. Brian furthered their education by completing their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University, where they studied from 1989 to 1993.
