Michael Borden

Chief Product Officer at Coreform

Michael Borden began their career in 1999 as a Research Assistant at Brigham Young University, specializing in finite element mesh generation. Michael then worked at Sandia National Laboratories from 2002 to 2011 as a Technical Staff member, where they focused on finite element mesh generation research and development. During this time, they also led the development of user training courses and material.

From 2007 to 2014, Michael worked at The University of Texas at Austin, starting as a PhD Candidate and later becoming a Postdoctoral Fellow. Michael investigated phase-field models for dynamic fracture and worked on adaptive hierarchical refinement methods for NURBS isogeometric models. Michael also mentored early stage Ph.D. students and developed a numerical framework for computing with isogeometric basis functions.

In 2014, Michael joined NC State University as an Assistant Professor of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, where they taught until 2017. Michael then transitioned to Brigham Young University as an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, a role they held until 2018.

In 2019, Michael became a Co-Founder of Coreform, a position they held until 2023. During this time, they played a key role in the development of the company's products. In 2023, they were promoted to Chief Product Officer, a position they currently hold.

Michael Borden's education history includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University, which they completed between 1998 and 2002. Michael then pursued a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the same institution, which they completed from 2000 to 2002. Following this, Michael attended The University of Texas at Austin, where they earned a Master of Science degree in Computational and Applied Mathematics from 2007 to 2009. Michael continued their education at The University of Texas at Austin and obtained a PhD in Computational Science, Engineering and Mathematics, completing their doctoral studies between 2007 and 2012.
