Backend Engineering Team Lead at Coro

Tom Willmott has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Tom began their career as a Summer Intern at Western Power Distribution, where they gained experience in maintaining power networks. Tom then interned at Schlumberger, where they worked on implementing software to streamline the manufacturing process.

Tom continued to expand their skills and knowledge at the University of Bath, where they pursued their education as a student. After graduating, they joined Alfa^ as a Junior Consultant, primarily focusing on development and integration. Tom later took on the role of Consultant, where they were responsible for release management, user acceptance testing, and the design and development of external APIs.

Seeking new opportunities, Tom joined Goji as a Full Stack Developer, where they designed and developed a microservice-driven architecture using Java and domain-driven design principles. Tom also contributed to front-end development using Ember.js. Tom then joined Newton Investment Management, first as a Senior Full Stack Developer and later as a Technical Lead. In these roles, they took ownership of the client-facing portal and oversaw a team of developers.

Tom continued their career progression by joining iManage, initially as a Staff Software Engineer and subsequently as a Software Engineering Team Lead. In these roles, they led the development of the company's on-premise search indexer, provided mentorship to the wider team, and handled support issues.

Most recently, Tom joined Coro as a Backend Engineering Team Lead.

From 2010 to 2015, Tom attended the University of Bath, where they earned a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Prior to that, from 2008 to 2010, Tom studied at Millennium Centre for their A-Levels.

Before entering higher education, Tom attended Littleover Community School from 2003 to 2008.

In addition to their formal education, Tom obtained a Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) certification from Scrum.org in September 2019.
