Michael Joy has held a variety of roles in the past decade. In 2012, they were an English Language Teacher for Instituto de Educación Secundaria and a Waterfront Counselor for Ramapo for Children. From 2015 to 2016, they were an ESL Teacher for Kaplan and held roles as a Marketing and Community Engagement Manager, Community Manager, and Trust and Safety Associate for Couchsurfing International.

Michael Joy attended TKA from 2000 to 2006. Michael then attended UC San Diego from 2006 to 2010, where they obtained a B.A. in Political Science and Psychology. In 2008, they studied Political Science and Italian at Richmond, The American International University in London. In 2021, Michael obtained two certifications: a Digital Marketing: Customer Engagement, Social Media, Planning & Analytics certification from Emeritus - Columbia Business School and a Business Analytics certification from Harvard Business School.
