James Hobbs

VP of Design at Course Studio

James Hobbs has a diverse and extensive work experience in the design industry. James currently serves as the VP of Design at Course Studio, starting in 2022. Prior to that, they held the position of Head of Product Design at Cometeer from 2021 to 2022.

James had a significant role at MetaLab, where they joined as a Design Director in 2018 and quickly progressed to the VP of Design role. During their tenure, James helped double the design team's size, refined product design and research processes, and introduced brand and motion design capabilities. James also contributed to shaping the overall company strategy and process as a member of the executive team. James worked at MetaLab until 2021.

Before joining MetaLab, James was a Design Director at Nelson Cash from 2017 to 2018. James played a key role in building a product-focused design team and establishing design processes and team culture. James also directed client relationships with major organizations, including Google Fiber, Mercari, Asana, and Evernote.

In 2011, James founded Octopus, a successful design studio catering to the Bay Area tech scene. James served as the Founder and Creative Director, leading the studio for four out of its seven years in business. James built and mentored a talented team and collaborated with renowned companies.

James began their career at Maker Design and Development in 2006, joining as a Junior UX/UI Designer and Front-End Developer. Over five years, they gained valuable experience designing and developing various digital products, including large-scale logistics platforms.

With their expertise in design leadership, team building, and strategic influence, James Hobbs has established a strong track record in the design industry.

James Hobbs attended the ARA School of Art & Design from 2003 to 2005, where they obtained a Bachelor of Design degree with a focus on Visual Communication.
