Phillip Compeau serves as the Assistant Department Head of the Computational Biology Department at Carnegie Mellon University, where Phillip also established the undergraduate program in computational biology and co-founded a precollege program. As an Associate Teaching Professor, Compeau teaches a range of courses in mathematics, computer science, artificial intelligence, and computational biology, having been promoted one year early for significant classroom contributions. Compeau is the founder and CEO of Philomath Press, which published "Biological Modeling: A Short Tour" in 2023. Additionally, Compeau co-founded Rosalind, an e-learning project in computational biology, and has served as an instructor for the Bioinformatics Specialization on Coursera. Previous roles include Project Scientist at UC San Diego, where a successful NIH grant supported scalable online education projects, and various teaching positions at UC San Diego. Compeau holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from UC San Diego, a Master of Advanced Study from the University of Cambridge, and is currently pursuing an MBA at Carnegie Mellon University.
