James Coughlan

James Coughlan has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. James started their career as an Institutional Banking Graduate at ANZ, where they later became a Relationship Manager for the Institutional Property Group. James also served as a Relationship Manager for Lending Services Property and later became the Head of Financial Institutions & Government in Papua New Guinea.

Moving on, James joined RBS, where they held several positions including Senior Risk Manager, Chief of Staff to the Group Chief Risk Officer, and Head of Group Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process. Their responsibilities included overseeing risk management, strategic initiatives, governance obligations, and regulatory compliance.

After RBS, James worked at Coutts as the Head of Planning & Delivery for Wealth Banking & Lending. James then transitioned to NatWest Group, where they initially served as the Head of Risk Oversight Functions and later took on the role of Head of Service Blueprinting CoE and Customer & Colleague Journeys Transformation Lead.

Prior to their banking career, James worked as a Paraplanner at Horsey Jameson Bird, where they gained exposure to financial structuring and planning.

James Coughlan completed their Senior Certificate at St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace from 1996 to 2003. James then pursued a Bachelor of Business in Banking & Finance at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) from 2004 to 2006. Following that, they obtained a Master of Business in Applied Finance from QUT from 2007 to 2008. In 2011 to 2013, they attended the Melbourne Business School for a Professional Certificate of Management. In 2020 to 2021, they participated in the Sustainability Leadership Programme at the University of Cambridge. Currently, they are an Affiliate at The Chartered Banker Institute since 2021.
