André Assis

André Assis, PhD, currently serves as Principal R&D Data Scientist at Covestro since June 2022 and is an Advisory Board Member at SteelTrace B.V. since July 2018. Previously, André held positions at Vallourec, including Group Program Manager for Predictive Analytics and R&D Manager for Steelmaking, where responsibilities included managing global R&D portfolios and planning projects for steelmaking operations. As a Senior Process Engineer at Vallourec Star, André provided technical support and developed procedural standards. Earlier experience includes a Ph.D. research project at Carnegie Mellon University focused on Oxygen Steelmaking and an internship involving blast furnace modeling. Academically, André earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Material Science & Engineering and a Master's in Materials Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, as well as a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais.
