Duncan Stuart is the EVP, Chief Legal Officer & Secretary at Covia. Duncan has held this position since June 2018. Prior to that, they were Deputy General Counsel at The Dow Chemical Company from August 1990 to June 2018.

During their time at The Dow Chemical Company, Stuart was responsible for teams providing legal support to Litigation, Corporate Transactions, Corporate Strategy, Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions, more than one-half of the Businesses, Intellectual Property, North America Manufacturing Operations, Human Resources, Business Services, Europe, India and Canada. Duncan led 90+ employees, including over 50 lawyers, with an internal annual total prime budget in excess of $50 million and a significantly higher overall spend.

Stuart has broad exposure to most areas of the law with extremely deep experience in M&A, Litigation and Governance. Duncan has strong relationships with outside counsel, encompassing many of the best and most sophisticated global firms. Duncan also has direct Government experience appearing before U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Federal Trade Commission, U.S. State Department, and European Commission. In addition, Stuart has extensive Governance experience, including designing and leading Union Carbide’s SEC compliant governance and active leadership on numerous boards and committees.

Duncan Stuart attended the University of Michigan for both their undergraduate and law degrees. Duncan graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, and then went on to graduate cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School with their J.D.

Duncan Stuart works with Rory O'Donnell - Interim CFO & SVP, Corporate Controller, Charlie Giaudrone - EVP, Industrial, and Campbell Jones - EVP, Chief Operating Officer. Their manager is Shawn Williams, Chairman of the Board & Acting Chief Executive Officer.
