Director Sustainable Finance Program, Capital Markets at CDP

James Chamberlayne has a diverse work experience in the field of sustainability and social impact. James is currently working as the Director Sustainable Finance Program, Capital Markets at CDP since 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Senior Manager, Supply Chains, UK & WW at CDP, where they worked with UK and worldwide companies on their strategic journey to limit climate change, improve water stewardship, and ban deforestation. James oversaw the expansion of the program across UK and Middle East markets, increasing revenue and disclosure.

Before joining CDP, James worked at Natems Sugar Private Limited as the Head of Sustainability and Social Impact, where they led the design and implementation of the company's sustainability program, working with smallholder farmers in a drought-prone region in India. James also worked as the Manager Sustainability and Social Impact for a UK-based company that worked closely with rural communities in India, developing and implementing sustainable farming methods.

James has previous experience as a Project Officer at NewLight Africa, where they conducted research into various projects within rural communities, and as an Intern at Armstrong Energy Global, where they worked on social mapping projects and researched the potential impact of bio ethanol cook stoves. James also gained experience in operations support at Afghanistan Support Education Training.

James Chamberlayne completed their Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in Law at the University of South Wales in 2013. James then pursued a Bachelor's degree in International Politics at Aberystwyth University from 2014 to 2017. In 2017, they enrolled at SOAS University of London to pursue a Master's of Science (MS) degree in Development Studies, which they completed in 2018. Currently, James is working towards obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Hydrology and Water Resources Science at Cranfield University, a program they joined in 2020 and is expected to complete in 2023.
