Michael Peat

Chair of the Board of Directors at CQS

Sir Michael is Chairman of the CQS Board of Directors, and chairs the CQS Board Engagement Committee and the CQS Executive Committee. He is also Chairman of CQS’ Audit & Risk Committee.

Sir Michael studied law at Trinity College Oxford (he is now an honorary Fellow). He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell’s London Office and went to business school at INSEAD in France. He became a partner in, by then, KPMG in 1985. He led a consultancy study into the management and finances of the Royal Household during 1986-87 and was subsequently asked to implement his recommendations. He did this initially on secondment from KPMG, before joining the Royal Household in 1993. Positions held in the Household included Keeper of the Privy Purse and Treasurer to The Queen, Receiver General of The Duchy of Lancaster, Principal Private Secretary to The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and chairman of The Prince’s Charities Foundation. He retired from the Royal Household in 2011. In addition to being a director of CQS Management Ltd. and a partner in CQS (UK) LLP, he is the senior non-executive director of Evraz plc, non-executive chairman of GEMS Education and a non-executive director of Arbuthnot Latham & Co Ltd. He received the 2018 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
