James Powell

James Powell is a seasoned landscape architect with extensive experience in design and planning. Currently serving as Principal Landscape Architect at Craftwater Engineering since July 2024, James previously held multiple roles at Alta Planning + Design from April 2013 to June 2024, including Principal and Senior Designer. James's early career includes positions as a Graduate IT Assistant and Research Assistant at Cal Poly Pomona and the City of Los Angeles, respectively, where skills in urban design, neighborhood mapping, and technical support were developed. Additionally, James worked as a graphic designer and web developer from 2003 to 2010 and gained design experience at badalato | ginsberg and Tweeter. Educated at California State Polytechnic University-Pomona with a Master of Landscape Architecture and New College of Florida with a Bachelor's in Humanities, James combines a strong academic foundation with diverse professional expertise.
