Afterwards, they worked as an Undergraduate Civil Engineering Researcher at the California Institute of Technology from June 1998 to September 1998 and as an Undergraduate Fluid Mechanics Researcher from June 1999 to September 1999.

Christopher then moved on to Corning Incorporated, where they served as a Manufacturing Engineer from September 2000 to January 2002. Following this, they joined Washington University in St. Louis as a Visiting Research Assistant at the Earth and Planetary Remote Sensing Lab from September 2005 to December 2005.

In 2002, Christopher began their tenure at MIT, starting as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Field and Space Robotics Lab from June 2002 to August 2004. Christopher then moved on to the Robotic Mobility Group, where they held the position of Graduate Research Assistant from September 2004 to May 2009. Christopher's roles included researching new techniques for terrain sensing to enable autonomous vehicles to adjust their behavior based on the physical properties of the terrain and developing algorithms to measure available traction using sensors available on mass-produced automobiles. Christopher eventually became a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT's Robotic Mobility Group from May 2009 to June 2012.

Most recently, Christopher worked at Creare as an Engineer from July 2012, and their current employment status is unknown.

Christopher Brooks earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (specializing in Controls, Robotics, and Instrumentation; Human-Machine Interaction) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they attended from 2004 to 2009. Christopher also obtained their Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT from 2002 to 2004. Prior to that, they completed their bachelor's degree in Engineering and Applied Science (Mechanical Engineering) from Caltech from 1996 to 2000.
