James Magee

Lead Sound Designer at Creative Assembly

James Magee has a diverse work experience in the field of sound design. James initially worked as a Music Recording Engineer at QM Studios from 2004 to 2009. From 2008 to 2010, they were a Freelance Sound Designer, working on low-budget films, animations, game mods, and indie projects. In 2010, they joined Sony Computer Entertainment Europe as a Sound Designer, focusing on interactive audio creation and implementation using Sony's proprietary audio tools. James also worked on projects involving Sony Move technology. From 2011 to 2012, Magee worked as a Sound Designer for Relentless Software, primarily on Microsoft titles Kinect Nat Geo TV Season 1 and Kinect Nat Geo TV Season 2, where they also handled technical implementation tasks. James then worked as a Freelance Sound Designer for Hutch Games Ltd in 2011, providing audio design for the iOS racing game 'Smash Cops'. In 2012, they returned to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe as a Sound Designer on a contractual basis, working on Wonderbook: Book Of Potions and contributing to audio design and implementation tasks. Lastly, they joined Creative Assembly in 2013, starting as a Sound Designer and eventually becoming a Senior Sound Designer and Lead Sound Designer.

James Magee earned a B.Sc 2:1 Hons in Computing and Music Technology [Joint] from De Montfort University from 2001 to 2004. James pursued further education at Bournemouth University, where they obtained an MA with Merit in Soundtrack Production (Sound Design) from 2007 to 2008.
