Kat Walsh

Kat Walsh serves as General Counsel at Creative Commons since August 2021, providing legal oversight for the organization's activities and advising on strategic initiatives. Walsh previously held the position of Deputy General Counsel, focusing on the legal infrastructure for the commons, and has experience as an independent attorney specializing in copyright, licensing, and nonprofit governance. Prior roles include Legal Counsel at Blockstream, where patent strategy and licensing were key responsibilities, and earlier positions at Creative Commons and Wikimedia Foundation, where significant contributions were made to free knowledge and cultural initiatives. Walsh holds a J.D. from George Mason University and a B.A. in Music from Stetson University.
