Cristae Therapeutics is a biotech company developing small-molecule therapies designed to restore mitochondrial function across a range of severe and currently intractable diseases.

Mitochondria generate the energy required for normal cellular function. When mitochondrial performance declines, cells become increasingly vulnerable to metabolic stress and degeneration. 

A growing body of research indicates that this process plays a central role in multiple conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and ALS, as well as rare disorders affecting the brain, heart and peripheral tissues.

Cristae’s scientific platform is built around a proprietary library of more than 700 small-molecule compounds. Protected by a growing portfolio of intellectual property, these molecules have been designed to optimise mitochondrial bioenergetics and support cellular resilience.

Several candidate-quality compounds from this platform have demonstrated encouraging results across both in vitro and in vivo models. Cristae’s lead compound, currently being advanced in Parkinson’s disease, has shown robust preclinical evidence of enhancing mitochondrial energetics and improving neuronal function. Related compounds have also produced biochemical and behavioural improvements in models of Alzheimer’s disease and ALS, supporting the underlying mechanism of action.

Cristae is advancing its lead candidate towards IND-enabling studies, with completion of the preclinical candidate package targeted for Q2 2026, regulatory toxicology studies beginning in Q3 2026 and first-in-human trials planned for the second half of 2027.
