Mark Fonseca

Mark Fonseca has a diverse work experience in the field of science, specifically in the areas of ecology, habitat restoration, and marine resources. Mark started their career in 1980 as a Research Ecologist at NOAA, where they conducted research on seagrasses and other marine resources. Mark also played a significant role in coordinating research projects and developing proposals within the organization.

In 2005, Fonseca took on a supervisory role as a Supervisory Ecologist at NOAA, where they had additional responsibilities such as overseeing staff, budgeting, and strategic planning.

In 2012, they joined CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. as a Senior Ecologist, where they provided support for science deliverables and specialized in habitat restoration, ecology, and natural resource assessment. Mark also introduced new software tools for data analysis and management.

At CSA Ocean Sciences Inc., Fonseca was promoted to Science Director in 2013, where they provided scientific leadership and managed the core science staff. Mark also played a crucial role in the marketing, winning, and delivery of the company's products.

In 2015, they became the Vice President of Science at CSA Ocean Sciences Inc., serving as a corporate officer and providing executive scientific leadership. Mark was responsible for guiding scientific writing, experimental design, and statistical analysis. Additionally, they played a key role in developing business opportunities and enhancing technical editing.

Currently, Fonseca holds the position of Chief Sciences Officer at CSA Ocean Sciences Inc., where they lead the company in the application of its science and technology services. Mark also works closely with corporate leadership to identify new technologies and integrate them into the company's core markets.

Mark Fonseca earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Resource Development from the University of Rhode Island in 1976. From 1976 to 1983, they pursued a Master's Degree (MSc) in Environmental Science at the University of Virginia. Later, they attended the University of California, Berkeley from 1993 to 1998, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Integrative Biology.
