Gavin Harper

Gavin Harper is a Critical Materials Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham, focusing on the recycling of lithium-ion batteries within the Birmingham Centre for Strategic Elements & Critical Materials. Previously, as Energy Development Manager at the same university, they oversaw the Birmingham Energy Institute, which united 140 academics and managed over £75 million in research grants. Gavin has contributed to multiple projects, including the Climate Action Pathways for Island Transport project with UNDP and served roles with various advisory and research groups. Their expertise spans renewable energy, sustainable architecture, and technology management, along with a commitment to making science and engineering accessible to younger audiences.
