Sweden Against Organised Crime-SMOB is a partnership aimed at strengthening Sweden’s capacity to combat organised crime, with a particular focus on the criminal economy. By enhancing cross-sectoral collaboration between key societal actors, SMOB contributes to preventing and countering organised crime. It is a national initiative that has grown out of a shared commitment by actors with extensive and diverse experience in addressing organised crime.

SMOB is a unique and innovative collaboration involving government agencies, academia, social partners, and business organisations. The initiative seeks to advance the fight against organised crime through education, research, innovation, and cross-sectoral cooperation. Unlike previous efforts, SMOB serves as a central knowledge hub where previously fragmented elements are now gathered and integrated. By integrating research and practice while promoting broad cooperation, SMOB aims to become a knowledge hub for developing and disseminating new methods and evidence-based tools to effectively counter organised crime, particularly its economic dimensions. It strengthens the capacity of participating organisations by establishing a structured platform to identify and address the needs of target groups.

The Governing Board includes representatives from all partner organisations, ensuring that key perspectives, interests, and needs are reflected in joint decision-making. One of its main responsibilities is to enhance organisational capacity to prevent and fight the criminal economy. SMOB’s partner organisations are the Public Employment Service, Economic Crime Authority, Social Insurance Agency, Enforcement Authority, Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO), Migration Agency, Police Authority, Tax Agency, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, Södertörn University, TCO (Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees), and the Swedish Customs. SMOB is co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).
