Deron Johnson has a diverse work history, starting in 1990 as a Copy Chief and Managing Editor for Vance Publishing Corporation. Deron then worked at FleishmanHillard as a Managing Supervisor, leading various client teams. From there, they joined Gibbs & Soell Business Communications as a Client Service Manager before moving to Brighton Agency as the Director of Public Relations, where they launched and led the public relations practice. Deron then became the Vice President, Director of Public Relations at Rhea + Kaiser, where they led a 20-person team.
Johnson then transitioned to Pfizer as the Director of Communications & Marketing Operations for the U.S. Companion Animal Division. Deron continued to hold this role when the division became part of Zoetis.
In 2011, they joined Curious Plot as the Executive Vice President, Chief Brand + Culture Officer, responsible for brand expression and reputation, as well as leading the agency's diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy. Additionally, they served as a senior leader of Curious Plot's animal health practice.
Since 2016, Johnson has been actively involved in the National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA), serving as Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, and President of the NAMA Executive Committee. Deron has also held roles in the NAMA Foundation.
Finally, they served on the board of the Kansas City Pet Project, a nonprofit animal shelter organization, as a board member.
Deron Johnson earned an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts from Johnson County Community College from 1984 to 1986. Following that, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Journalism with a focus on news-editorial emphasis at Kansas State University from 1986 to 1988.
