Michael Garrad has a diverse work experience in the events and film industry. Michael started their career as a Team Assistant at the BBC, providing administrative support in both corporate and broadcast/events departments. Michael then moved on to Close-Up Film Centre as an Assistant Manager, where they played a crucial role in formulating strategies and managing staff. Subsequently, they joined Curzon Cinemas, initially working as an Events Coordinator, making logistical arrangements for public and private events. Michael then progressed to the role of Events Programmer, where they managed the public events program, negotiated contracts, and successfully shifted events online during the pandemic. Currently, Michael holds the position of Head of Public Events at Curzon Cinemas, where they are responsible for the events strategy, curation of Q&As, film festival partnerships, and the DocDays documentary strand.
Michael Garrad completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Lancaster University between 1999 and 2002. Following this, they pursued further education and obtained their Master of Arts degree in Modern and Contemporary Literature from Birkbeck, University of London between 2014 and 2016.
