Chris Nicol

Vice President at d-Matrix

Chris Nicol has been in the technology industry since 1985. Chris'sfirst role was as a Research Engineer at Microbee Systems, where they wrote a WYSIWYG word processor in Z80 assembler called Simply Write. In 1995, they joined Bell Labs as a Research. In 1998, they became Head of Bell Labs Australia and led the design of Viterbi & Turbo Channel Decoders for 3G wireless handsets and basestations (rel-99 and HSDPA). In 2003, they established the Agere design center in Australia and delivered handset chipsets for 3G mobile handsets including the first 3G phones on the market (NEC) and the first HSDPA systems. In 2006, they became Chief Technology Officer, Embedded Systems at NICTA Australia's National ICT Research Institute, (now Data61 at CSIRO). In 2011, they joined Wave Computing as Chief Technology Officer, where they were Chief Architect of Wave's Data Flow Processing Unit SoC, leading Architecture, Benchmarking, Systems HW/SW design and Machine Learning R&D. In 2019, they became Vice President of d-Matrix Corporation.

Chris Nicol completed their MBA at the AGSM @ UNSW Business School between 2005 and 2008, and their Ph.D. in Microelectronics at UNSW between 1985 and 1995.
