Stuart Harwood

Stuart Harwood is a Solution Architect at D-Wave, focusing on enhancing industrial clients' numerical and decision-making processes through machine learning, mathematical optimization, and quantum computing since January 2024. Prior to this role, Stuart worked at ExxonMobil from July 2015 to December 2023, initially as a Machine Learning Researcher, where responsibilities included modeling demand and transaction probabilities for refined products using PyTorch and XGBoost, and later as a Mathematical Optimization Research Scientist, contributing to the improvement of near-term quantum algorithms included in IBM's Qiskit software stack. Stuart's academic background includes a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where research involved uncertainty propagation in dynamic systems, and experience as a teaching assistant for graduate-level optimization and numerical methods courses. Earlier education includes a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University.
