Weiyi Zhang

Weiyi Zhang has a diverse work experience in product design and management. In 2019, they worked as a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where they collaborated on a project involving 3D fabrication of vascularized tissue constructs. They then joined TEAMS as an Industrial Designer and UX Researcher, where they contributed to consumer electronics and branding projects. They later worked at Xiaomi Technology as a Product Manager, leading localization strategies and user testing for the virtual assistant product. At NIO, Weiyi served as a UX Designer, designing and testing new features for in-car navigation and mapping. They also worked at Momenta.ai as a Product Designer and Product Manager, designing and shipping features for internal web tools and leading design efforts for the development of a design system. Most recently, Weiyi worked at Cruise as a Product Designer, where they designed and built experiments for notification systems and machine learning platforms. Weiyi is currently working at Databento as a Product Designer.

Weiyi Zhang completed a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Product Analysis and Engineering Design from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, spanning from 2015 to 2020. In 2017, Zhang also participated in a short-term exchange program at McGill University, studying Mechanical Engineering for a semester.

Zhang then pursued further education and is currently enrolled in the Master of Integrated Innovation for Products & Services program at Carnegie Mellon University, starting in 2021 and expected to finish in 2022.

In addition to their formal education, Zhang has obtained several professional certificates from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI). These certifications include a Professional Certificate in Product Design Strategies and Branding obtained in August 2019, a Professional Certificate in Parametric Surface Modeling for Product Design obtained in June 2019, and a Professional Certificate in Innovative Product Design and Management obtained in November 2018.
