Gregor Pirs

Data Scientist at Databox

Gregor Pirš has worked as a Data Scientist at Databox since 2021. From 2016 to 2020, they worked as a Researcher and Young Researcher at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science. During this time, their main research focus was on ensemble methods and Bayesian models for latent structure extraction in count data. Gregor also worked on research and implementation of algorithms in R for BSP SouthPool Energy Exchange. In 2020, they were a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University in the City of New York, where they worked with Andrew Gelman and Yuling Yao on Bayesian hierarchical stacking. This exchange ended early due to the COVID pandemic. From 2015 to 2016, they were an Actuarial Analyst at Zavarovalnica Sava (formerly Zavarovalnica Maribor), where their main assignments included being a correspondent for foreign consultants, developing and implementing GLM workflow for car insurance premiums, and modeling of extreme claims using extreme value theory.

Gregor Pirš obtained a BSc in Mathematics from Univerza v Mariboru between 2010 and 2013. Gregor then attended Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Műnchen for one year in 2011-2012 before returning to Univerza v Mariboru to pursue an MSc in Mathematics, which they completed in 2016. Gregor then went on to the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science, where they are currently completing their PhD in Computer and Information Science, which they are expected to finish in 2021.
