Michalis Petropoulos

Michalis Petropoulos is an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in query processing and data storage systems. Most recently, Michalis served as Vice President of Engineering at Databricks, overseeing query processing and storage for the Lakehouse platform from June 2021 to September 2023. Prior to this, Michalis worked at Google as Director of Engineering, managing the BigQuery Processing team and responsibilities that included query optimization and execution. At Amazon Web Services, Michalis held the roles of Director of Engineering and Senior Engineering Manager, focusing on the development of Amazon Redshift's query processing and storage. Earlier career experiences include serving as Director of Engineering at Pivotal Software, where Michalis was instrumental in architecting HAWQ and the Greenplum Database, as well as working as an architect for query processing at Greenplum. Michalis holds both a PhD and M.S. in Computer Science from UC San Diego.
