Director, Human AI Innovation (hai) at Dataminr

Alison Renner has extensive work experience in the field of research and innovation. Alison currently works at Dataminr as a Research Manager in the Human AI Innovation (HAI) Team since March 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Senior Research Scientist & Manager in the HAI Team from April 2021 to March 2023.

Before joining Dataminr, Alison worked at Decisive Analytics Corporation for over a decade. During their time there, they served as the Director of the Machine Learning Visualization Lab from June 2009 to April 2021. In this role, they developed human-in-the-loop interfaces for entity management, faceted data exploration, and anomaly detection. Alison also designed and evaluated mechanisms for algorithmic transparency and human-in-the-loop feedback. As a principal investigator and project manager, they led the technical direction and ensured cost, schedule, and performance of the research portfolio. This included projects such as creating an analyst workspace for semi-automated, multi-modal product generation and optimizing unstructured chat extraction through active learning.

Additionally, Alison had prior experience with the Virginia Space Grant Consortium as an Independent Research Grant recipient from June 2008 to May 2009.

Alison Renner has an extensive education history in the field of computer science. Alison earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from William & Mary in 2009. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science at the University of Maryland, completing it in 2014. Alison'sacademic journey continued with a focus on research as they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science at the University of Maryland from 2014 to 2020. Throughout their education, Alison Renner has demonstrated a strong commitment to expanding their knowledge and expertise in the field of computer science.
