Mike Fortman

Mike Fortman has a diverse work experience that spans over several years. Mike started their career as an Application Development Intern at Northwestern Mutual in 2014, where they worked in an Agile development environment and utilized various JavaScript frameworks. Mike developed new features and integrated tools to create a consistent user experience across different websites.

In 2017, Mike joined Capital One as a Software Engineer. During their time there, they focused on developing lightweight, responsive, and accessible Single Page Applications (SPA) and micro frontend applications using Angular and React. Mike also contributed to the organization's design system and components library using LitElements and VanillaJS. Mike collaborated closely with the design team to ensure pixel-perfect and accessible implementations. Additionally, they played a crucial role in transitioning old monolithic applications to a microservice architecture. Mike also took on the responsibility of being the lead tech development program recruiter, aiding in the recruitment, interview, and onboarding of candidates from their Alma mater.

In 2020, Mike moved on to The Michaels Companies, Inc. as a Front End Engineer II. Here, their expertise in frontend development continued to be utilized as they focused on their role in developing frontend applications.

Most recently, in 2021, Mike joined DataStax as a Frontend Software Engineer, where they are currently working.

Mike Fortman completed their education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2013-2017, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering & Computer Sciences. Prior to that, they attended Franklin High School from 2009-2013, but did not earn any specific degree or field of study. In addition to their formal education, Mike obtained the certification of AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate from Amazon Web Services in August 2018.
