Patrick McFadin has a diverse work experience that spans over decades. Patrick began their career in the US Navy, where they served as a Data Systems Technician and made notable contributions in data communications and defense system design and testing. Following their military service, McFadin worked as a Network Engineer at Cal Poly, supporting technology for student records and admissions. Patrick then became an Independent Software Consultant before founding their own group of software developers at Link-11 Systems, Inc. Later on, McFadin worked as an Adjunct Faculty at Santa Rosa Junior College, teaching Unix System Administration. Patrick also held various leadership roles at Hobsons, including Director of Engineering, Director of Systems and Architecture, and Chief Architect, overseeing technology direction and implementation.
In 2012, McFadin joined DataStax, where they held multiple positions, including Principal Solution Architect, Chief Evangelist for Apache Cassandra, and VP Developer Relations. In these roles, they traveled internationally to educate and advocate for the Cassandra community and worked on distributed systems and databases. Additionally, McFadin served as a Technical Oversight Committee member at CNCF (Cloud Native Computing Foundation) and is currently an Apache Cassandra Committer at The Apache Software Foundation.
Patrick McFadin attended Santa Rosa Junior College from 1993 to 1996, but did not obtain a degree or major in any specific field. Following this, from 1996 to 1999, they studied Computer Engineering at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in that field.
