Defne Surujon has a wealth of research experience. Defne began their career in 2011 as a Peer Tutor for Organic Chemistry, Grader, and Research Assistant at Amherst College. In 2012, they worked as a Student Assistant at the Keefe Science Library and a Research Assistant at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. In 2014, they were a Research Technician at the USDA Jean Mayer Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging. From 2016 to 2021, they were a PhD Student at Boston College. Defne currently holds the role of Research Scientist at Day Zero Diagnostics, Inc.

Defne Surujon obtained their Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Biochemistry and Mathematics from Amherst College between 2010 and 2014. Defne also obtained certifications in Statistical Inference from Coursera in December 2014, R Programming from Coursera in June 2014, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Healthcare Providers from the American Red Cross in August 2012, and Bioinformatics Algorithms (Part 1), Developing Data Products, Network Analysis in Systems Biology, and Statistical Learning from Coursera. Defne is currently pursuing their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Biology and General from Boston College, which they began in 2016 and is expected to complete in 2021.
