deafPLUS (formerly Breakthrough Deaf-Hearing Integration, established in the 1970's, has a long history of working with deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK. We are based in Birmingham, Bath, Hampshire, Surrey and three offices in London (Bromley, Ealing and Whitechapel), these UK wide services have enabled us to continually grow and develop. deafPLUS has a long history of innovation in the deaf community – we introduced Textphones to the UK in the 1970s, Email and Deaf Awareness training in the 1980s, and we were the first to introduce a Mobile Advice Service in the 1980s. Our main activities are: • Information, Advice and Guidance • Advocacy • Employment & Training • Personal support and development • Deaf Awareness Training • Lipreading and Hearing loss rehabilitation • Equipment assessment and fitting • DeafBlind support • Personal Budgets and Brokerage Our organisation is experienced with an excellent track record in working in Employment and Advocacy Services. Our staff who work with clients are deaf themselves to ensure communication needs are met and there is full empathy with the client. The charity is experienced in promoting and maintaining a positive and inclusive practice between deaf and hearing people; working with them both to achieve equal status and recognition.
