Michael Smythe

Michael Smythe has held a variety of roles in finance and operations over the past 24 years. In 1997, they began their career as a Senior Consultant at Deloitte Consulting, where they assisted major domestic and international media and telecommunications clients. In 1999, they moved to Enron Europe Ltd, where they held the role of Manager of Business Development in both London and Portland. In 2004, they joined Virgin Media as the Head of Financial Analysis and Planning, where they were responsible for a team of associates that supplied all financial planning and analysis. In 2007, they moved to CLEAR (clearme.com) as the Vice President of Finance, where they successfully led an equity financing round that raised $44 million. In 2009, they joined Journalism Online, LLC as Finance, and in 2014 they moved to Piano Media in the same role. In 2016, they joined Jet Reports as Vice President of Finance, and in 2018 they moved to Azlo as VP of Finance and NewsGuard Technologies as Finance Advisor. Finally, in 2021 they joined DeepSurface Security as VP of Operations and Finance.

Michael Smythe earned their MBA in Information Management from The University of Texas at Austin, as well as an MA in Radio-Television-Film and a BA in Theirtory of Science from the same university. Michael also attended St. John's School.
