Liam Matear is an experienced professional in marine ecosystems and data management. Currently serving as the Head of Data & Systems at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs since December 2023, Liam previously worked at JNCC from September 2017 to December 2023 in various roles, including Senior Marine Ecosystems Scientist and Marine Data Specialist. Earlier career roles include a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, Data Officer at ORCA, and Marine Research Assistant positions at Archipelagos and the Generalitat de Catalunya. Liam holds a Master’s degree in Coastal & Marine Resource Management from the University of Portsmouth, achieved with Distinction, and a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Geography from Cardiff University.
