Matthew Casey

Matthew Casey currently serves as Team Leader for International Biodiversity & Environment Negotiations and Team Leader for Forest Risk Commodities at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs since May 2023. Prior roles include Senior EU Engagement & Policy Advisor at the Department for Business and Trade, and Deputy Team Leader for Plant Health International at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Matthew has a robust academic background with a PhD in Plant Molecular Biology from Royal Holloway, University of London, following a BSc in Botany/Plant Biology from The University of Manchester. Notably, Matthew has been actively involved in diversity initiatives as the Co-Lead of the LGBTQ+ Network at Defra and has garnered recognition for contributions to educational resources and webinars.
