Simon Smith

Simon Smith is an experienced manager, economist, and policy professional currently serving as Deputy Director of Strategic Finance at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Previously, Simon worked at HM Treasury from 2014 to 2017, holding several key positions including Policy Advisor, Head of National Insurance Contributions and Apprenticeship Levy, Head of Health Spending, and Head of Public Spending Analysis. Simon also recently held the role of Head of Fraud, Error and Debt - Welfare Policy at HM Revenue & Customs from 2023 to 2024. Simon earned an MSc in Economics with distinction from the University of Sussex in 2013.
