William Broad is an experienced policy leader with a strong focus on biodiversity and innovation strategy. Currently serving at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, William leads the CBD COP16 Strategy and Engagement and heads the Hunting Trophies Bill. As a Technical and Policy Team Leader for the International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits Secretariat, William has contributed to the mobilization of resources for the Global Biodiversity Framework Targets. Previous roles include Senior Policy Advisor at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, where William developed the UK's Innovation Strategy 2021, and Strategy Advisor at UK Research and Innovation, focusing on research commercialization. William's background includes strategic program management at BBSRC and academic roles at the University of Oxford. William holds a PhD in Plant Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Oxford and a BSc in Biology from the University of York.
