Albert Polman

Albert Polman has had a diverse and extensive work experience throughout their career. Albert started at AMOLF in 1985 as a PhD student, focusing on laser, ion, and electron-beam induced phase transformations in silicon. After completing their PhD, they continued to work at AMOLF in various roles, including Scientific Group Leader, Head of Department, and Managing Director. During their time at AMOLF, they led teams working on nanophotonics, photovoltaics, and cathodoluminescence spectroscopy. Albert also served as Program Director for the Light Management in New Photovoltaic Materials program. In 2011, they co-founded DELMIC B.V., a startup that commercialized cathodoluminescence technology developed in their group at AMOLF. Albert joined the UvA as a Professor in 2012 and has remained in that role. Albert Polman has also been involved in various other activities, such as being an Executive Board Member for NanoNextNL and a Sabbatical Visitor at UNSW and Caltech. In addition, they have performed lecture theatre performances on solar energy and has been a professor at Utrecht University.

Albert Polman earned a VWO degree from Lorentz Lyceum in the years 1972 to 1978. Albert then went on to pursue a Master's degree in physics at Utrecht University from 1978 to 1985. Following this, they completed their PhD in physics from Utrecht University between 1985 and 1989.
