They graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with undergraduate degrees in Management Information Systems and Accounting, and later earned a Master of Business Taxation from the University of Minnesota. Throughout their career, Patrick held various leadership roles in international tax across multiple countries, including assignments in Munich, Sydney, and Washington, D.C., and they frequently lectured on international tax topics while serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota.
